BACHELOR IN AUDIOLOGY SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

This four years (six semesters with one year clinical internship) Bachelor Degree Course which is affiliated to Bangalore University and approved by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi. The training in the first three years (six semesters) is an equal combination of theoretical subjects and hands-on practical training.

Theory subjects such as, Speech Pathology, Audiology, Voice, Fluency, Neuro-motor speech and language disorders, Noise and its measurements and Hearing aids are predominantly included. Upon successful completion a graduate is eligible to:

1)Assess and treat various types of speech, language and hearing disorders.

2)Function as team member of health care teams such as voice care and phonosurgery, cochlear implant programs, laryngectomy, hearing aid dispensing centres and aphasia rehabilitation centers.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

a) The candidate applying for admission to BSLPA course should have passed 10+2 examination or equivalent / two years of Pre-University/Pre-Degree examination conducted by the Pre University Board of Education of Government of respective State with minimum 50% of marks, and further.

b) The applicant/candidate should have studied:

Physics, Chemistry & Biology / Mathematics / Computer Science / Statistics / Electronics / Psychology/ Home Science.

c) At the time of entry/admission to the first semester BSLPA course the candidate should be of age 17 years and there is no upper age limit for admission.

d) Lateral entry to 2nd year of BSLPA is permitted for candidates who meet the following criteria as per Bangalore University rules.

i) Successfully passed Diploma in Hearing-Language-Speech (DHLS) revised course from any RCI recognized training institute with Science background as specified under 3 (b).

ii) Two years of work experience in the field.

iii) A maximum of 3 seats can be admitted on merit basis as supernumerary to total intake permitted by RCI and respective affiliating University. For candidates who have successfully passed the pre-revised DHLS course recognized by RCI with 2 years of work experience, 3 month short course approved by RCI and entrance test will be the requirement.

 

DURATION

• The duration of the course shall be of 4 years consisting of 6 semesters of coursework and 2 semesters of internship.

• Each semester will be of a minimum period of 16 weeks and internship will be of 10 months.

• Course work shall begin and end as per Bangalore University calendar of events. As far as possible the first, third and fifth semesters of         BSLPA course will commence latest by last week of July each year. These semesters will end by the 4th week of December each year.

• At the end of these semesters there shall be examinations, followed by vacation for students.

• Course shall be completed within 7 years from the date of enrolment for the course.

Fourth Year BASLP

Clinical Internship

Internship of one academic year duration (10 months) will start after the candidate completes the required courses till the 4th semester and appears for sixth semester.

program - MASLP

MASTER IN AUDIOLOGY SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

The field of Speech Language Pathology & Audiology deals with assessment and management of clients with any of the communication disorders. Candidates with BASLP degree can enhance their knowledge in clinical, theoretical and research domains through MASLP program which also makes them eligible to practice as Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologist in both national and international level.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Pass in BASLP / B.Sc. (Speech & Hearing) / B.Sc. (Speech Language & Hearing) or any other equivalent examination in India or abroad as approved by the Bangalore University. Only those who have completed one year of clinical internship are eligible.

MASLP is a post graduate programme following the BASLP course spread over two years/four semesters. MASLP graduates in addition to performing their clinical rehabilitative roles will be able to function as Master trainers and researchers. Master trainers are eligible to take up the role of lecturers in colleges offering Speech, Language pathology and Audiology courses and in medical colleges. They are also eligible to apply for and conduct research projects pertaining to core and allied subjects of speech, language and hearing.

In most countries including USA, MASLP is the minimum eligibility qualification to work in schools and hospital setups. Naseema Institute of Speech and Hearing is one of the few institutions in India offering this course.

MODE OF SELECTION

The candidates are selected for the MASLP course based on the marks obtained in their bachelor degree of Audiology and Speech Pathology (BASLP/B.Sc. Speech Language and Hearing) examination provided they have the eligibility.  

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

The duration of the MASLP degree program is extended over a period of 2 academic years of 4 semesters. Each semester is of 18 weeks duration including instructions.
